Proporta, a well-established company and also thoroughly nice people, asked Office Builders to install a mezzanine floor to provide additional storage space. The mezzanine had also to be designed so that it could be extended at a later date with the minimum of fuss.
As Proporta are an extremely busy company supplying cases for mobile phones, iPads, tablets, etc. to both the public and top brand names such as Ted Baker, Barbour, Quiksilver and Roxy, it was imperative that the flow of goods from the warehouse was not interrupted. In order to achieve this, the racking and all the dispatch equipment had to stay in place during the building of the floor. This was because the only shutdown time available was one three day weekend which was only just long enough to install the mezzanine and did not allow time to remove the racking and despatch equipment during the installation and then put it all back again.
After very detailed discussions between Proporta and Office Builders, a plan was worked out. Once the risk assessments and method statements had been completed, work started, and with superb co-operation from Proporta, the floor was installed in three days over a weekend. During the following few days, a one-hour fire-rated suspended ceiling was installed, one-hour fire-rated column casings fitted together with new lighting and emergency lighting.
Proporta were a delight to deal with, and this complex project was completed on time and to budget.
